Jiouru Township, located in the northwestern part of Pingtung County, was renamed from “Jiu Kuai Cu” in 1940. Jiouru Jonior High School is the only junior high school in this township. Its main buildings, established in February, 1962, were then refurbished by the former Principal San-Quig Chen and Fu-Cai Lee, and finally finished by the incumbent Principal Jia-Yin Chen. After this, the whole campus was just like turning over a new leaf, and became one of the few well-equipped schools in Jiouru.
Walking on the campus, you
can find not only the beauty of the static state but also the beauty of the
dynamic state in this school. Sometimes in the early morning, a breeze coming
from the distance makes the camphor trees on the green track swing to it; what’s
more amazing is that those various species of orchids, attached to the
trees—white, red, and purple—also dance to the breeze.Seeing the students
strolling on the green grass makes one feel not only refreshed but also joyful.
The former Principal San-Quig Chen was committed to promoting five senses—sense
of honor, sense of responsibility, sense of thankfulness, sense of civism, and
sense of thoughtfulness—which also became the names of the new buildings
thereafter.
From then on, the principals successive also took the five senses as their main
educational concepts to manage the school and tried their best to cultivate all
the students into healthy citizens both physically and mentally.
Jiouru is a typical farming township. People here are mostly living on farming
and leading a very simple life.Although the discrepancy of cultural stimulation
and standard of living between Jiouru and the big cities may be a little large,
Jiouru, seen from another point of view, creates the stepping stone of harmony
and simplicity of Jiouru Junior High School. An old saying goes “The harmony of
a family brings the prosperity and happiness.”Not only the faculty and staff but
also the students in Jiouru Junior High School make great efforts to create a
model of “The harmony of Jiouru Junior High School.”
In 2000, our school won the prize for “One of the top ten schools for
environmental protection nationwide.”

The school teams are mainly composed of seven sports: boxing, dodge ball,
baseball volleyball, track and field, swimming, and bowling. Professional
coaches are recruited and hired to lead the school teams, which have already won
numerous prizes for the school. Also, the newly-establilshed athletic classes
are also trained zealously nowadays. We hope to develop our students’ potential
more and to win the international prestige for our nation in the future.
The campus of Jiouru Junior High School is picturesque, just like an elegant
picture.Lying down on the green grass in summertime, you can see rosy clouds of
the dusk in the sky. In addition, you can see Fo-Quang Mountain, the most famous
Buddhistic mountain in Kaohsiung and Xie-Zhang Bridge on the Second Southern
Highway in the distance form here. What a wonderful view we have from here!
The school occupying only 4.2 hectares has 26 classes and 900 students. We,
however, own a standard boxing gym, where you can hold competitive matches. We
also have a swimming pool, which is often open to the schools nearby. Last but
not least, our school collaborate with the community to build up a “Bicycle Only
Track” with a view to the traffic safety of our students.
From campus designing, life education, team activity to the very tiny places,
all the efforts we make take the students’ best benefits into consideration. We,
especially, take pride in some features of the campus: free toilet tissue paper
in the restrooms, hundreds of unlocked bikes in the parking places, and flowers
and trees everywhere, etc..All of these show the good discipline of our
students.Even the alumnus keep a very good relationship with the school. You may
often see them coming back in groups to visit their former teachers.“Jiouru”
orginates form a special term for blessings. Being one of the members in Jiouru,
we have a sense of pride and a sense of responsibility as well. Based on the
efforts of all the faculty and staff, students, alumnus, and people form the
community, we believe our campus will be brighter and more colorful in the
future.
